AUSTIN, Texas – Texas sophomore Harrison Scott posted his eighth-straight win, and UT added two additional singles wins and the doubles point in a 4-0 victory over Purdue (6-5) Sunday afternoon at UT's Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center on the grounds of the UT Golf Club.
Texas asserted itself early on in doubles play and claimed two positions to clinch the doubles point. The tandem of senior George Golfhoff and Leonardo Telles struck first for Texas with a 6-1 win over Dominik Sochurek and Benjamin Ugarte at first doubles.
The Longhorns clinched the doubles point at the third position where freshman Christian Sigsgaard and sophomore Julian Zlobinsky defeated Purdue's Gergely Madarasz and Athell Bennett, 6-3. The remaining court was abandoned.
Sigsgaard tacked on to the Texas lead with his 6-4, 6-1 win over the 93rd-ranked Madarasz at first singles. The 58th-ranked Scott, who hasn't dropped a singles set since last October, posted his eighth-straight win and defeated the Boilermakers' 111th-ranked Ugarte by a 6-3, 6-4 count at third singles to give Texas a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Rodrigo Banzer finished off the Longhorns' victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Stephan Koenigsfest at fourth singles. The remaining courts were suspended.
Texas takes on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the second half of Sunday's day-night doubleheader at 5 p.m. CT.
