UT to host NCAA women’s meet for first time since 2011 and the men’s competition for the first time since 2014.
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced Tuesday the selections of The University of Texas and the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center to host the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
UT will host the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from March 20-23, 2019 and the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships from March 27-30, 2019.
UT and the TSC welcome the women's championship for the seventh time overall after most recently hosting in 2011. The men's championship returns to Austin for a ninth time overall and for the first time since 2014. It will mark the first time UT has hosted both championships in the same year.
Texas first hosted the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in 1988 when the Horns won their fifth straight NCAA title under the late Richard Quick. UT won the next NCAA women's championship hosted at UT in 1990, and Texas hosted the NCAA women's meets again in 1992, 1995, 2002 and 2011.
UT played host to the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships for the first time in 1951 at Gregory Gym. The Texas Swimming Center hosted the meet for the first of seven times in 1981 when Eddie Reese, in his third year as the head coach of the Longhorns, led Texas to its first of an NCAA-leading 13 national titles.
UT won additional NCAA team titles at the Texas Swimming Center in 1991 and 1996. The NCAA men's championships were contested at the TSC in 1985, 1987, 2003 and 2014, as well.
The Texas Swimming Center has welcomed numerous national, collegiate, club and high school aquatics meets since it opened 40 years ago. In addition to the aforementioned NCAA Championships, the TSC has hosted events such as the 1980 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials, the 1981 AIAW National Championship, the 1988 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials and the 2001 U.S. World Championship Trials.
