LONDON – Chrisann Gordon finished 10th in her first IAAF World Championship individual appearance. The 2017 NCAA champion crossed the line in 50.87 to take third in her heat of the semifinals on Monday afternoon and finish 10th overall.
This was Gordon's first time making her national team in an individual event after helping Jamaica win gold at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in the 4x400 meter relay and silver at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Her time of 50.87 was .17 short of grabbing an at-large spot in the final based on time. She also was .27 behind second place in her heat, which would have earned her an automatic bid to the final.
Despite Gordon not making the final, she and her Jamaican teammates showed they will be difficult to beat in the 4x400 as they seek to defend their title. All four of Jamaica's runners in the women's 400 meters finished in the top 10 of the semifinals with three advancing to the final.
The first round of the 4x400 relay is set for 5:20 p.m. Central on Saturday with the final on Sunday.
Action for other Longhorns competing at the IAAF World Championships continues on Tuesday from Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Olympic gold medalist Michelle Carter is the only Longhorn in action tomorrow with the qualifying round of the women's shot put slated for 2:40 p.m. Central.
