AUSTIN, Texas— Junior guard Sug Sutton's 16-point outing was not enough as No. 10 Texas (7-1) lost to No. 6 Mississippi State (8-0), 67-49, on Sunday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center. Sutton led the Longhorns in points (16), assists (five) and rebounds (eight). Sophomore guard Destiny Littleton also had a solid performance, contributing nine points and three rebounds.
Texas got off to a hot start, connecting on their first three baskets. However, a scoring drought that would last 2:21 would allow the Mississippi State to take an early 8-7 lead with 4:13 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs would rattle off a 10-0 run over the next 2:37, giving Mississippi State an 18-9 lead with 1:01 remaining in the first period of play. Mississippi State connected on five straight field goals to give the Bulldogs a 17-point advantage, 32-15, over the Longhorns with 4:25 left to go in the opening half. Texas would trail, 36-22, at the half.
A 7-0 run led by Sutton late in the third quarter allowed Texas to cut into the deficit, although the Bulldogs would maintain a 17-point lead, 48-31, with 1:32 left in the penultimate period of play. A 12-1 surge from the Longhorns in the fourth quarter would come too late for the Longhorns.
KEY STATISTICS
- The Longhorns used the starting lineup of Jada Underwood, Jatarie White, Audrey Warren, Sutton and Williams.
- Sutton had one of the best games of her career. Sutton contributed 16 points (one shy of tying her career-high), eight rebounds and five assists. Sutton's eight rebounds tie a career-high (last at Iowa State, 02/24/18). Sutton also chipped in two steals in 38 minutes of play.
- This was the fourth time this season that Sutton has recorded at least 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
- Sutton continued finding open players for good looks as she dished out five assists. On the season, Sutton is averaging 6.25 assists per contest.
- White recorded just seven points and two rebounds in 19 minutes, snapping her streak of seven-consecutive games scoring in double-figures to start the season.
- Mississippi State outscored Texas 48-28 in the paint.
- Texas committed a season-high 22 turnovers. Prior to Sunday, the Longhorns had been averaging 14 turnovers a game. Mississippi State's defense capitalized on those miscues, converting Texas' 23 turnovers into 19 points.
- Texas' bench outscored the Mississippi State bench 18-4

Texas will continue its four-game home stand when it plays host to the No. 11 Tennessee Lady Volunteers on Dec. 9. Tip-off on Sunday is slated for 12 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on ESPN2 and will be available on radio at 105.3 FM in Austin.
