Gibson and Windle earn top-four finishes at USA Diving Winter Trials

Gibson earns bronze on 1m and Windle picks up a fourth-place finish on the 3-meter event
ATLANTA, Ga. – Three University of Texas divers wrapped up competition on the fifth day of the USA Diving Winter Trials at the McAuley Aquatics Center, highlighted by junior Alison Gibson taking home a bronze medal on 1-meter. The Longhorn divers have earned eight medals, including four golds, throughout the week in Atlanta.
After finishing the prelims just 1.5 points back of the top-spot on 1-meter, Gibson opened the finals with her best dives of the afternoon in the first two rounds. Gibson earned 57.60 points with an inward 1.5 somersault pike in round one and then threw the top dive (54.60 points) of the second round with a forward 2.5 somersault. Gibson would finish with 509.20 points and a bronze medal behind Brooke Schultz and Sarah Bacon.
Texas senior Meghan O'Brien picked up a seventh-place finish on 1-meter with a finals score 476.15. After finishing in the seven spot in the prelims, O'Brien opened the finals with her best dive for 57.35 points with an inward 2.5 somersault tuck.
Sophomore Jordan Windle locked down his first-ever trip to the FINA Grand Prix on a springboard event with his fourth-place finish on 3-meter. After finishing in seventh during the prelims, Windle worked his way up to number four with a round average of almost 69 points during the finals.
The Texas divers will continue action tomorrow at the USA Diving Winter Trials with Alison Gibson and Meghan O'Brien on the 3-meter and Jacob Cornish competing on platform.
