PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Freshman Texas golfer Kaitlyn Papp claimed her first collegiate tournament victory as one of three golfers in the Northrop Grumman Intercollegiate field to earn individual medalist honors on Tuesday at Palos Verdes Country Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.

As a team, No. 7 Texas moved up four spots on the final day to place sixth overall with a three-round total of 885 (298-296-291) in the highly competitive field that included 10 of the nation's top-20 teams. The Longhorns finished higher than five ranked teams, including No. 4 Duke. UCLA, the nation's No. 1 team, captured the team title at the Northrop Grumman Intercollegiate with a three-round total of 867 (292-284-291).

"It was a good effort this week from the team," Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. "Being our first tournament back since November, I felt like we did several good things. It's definitely a good place to build from."

Papp fired a one-under-par three-round total of 212 (69-71-72). She was the tournament's individual tri-champion, sharing medalist honors with Arizona State's Olivia Mehaffey and UCLA's Lilia Vu.

It is an impressive victory for Papp, competing in her sixth collegiate tournament as a rookie, as she shared the tournament crown with Vu, the nation's No. 3 golfer, and Mehaffey, the nation's No. 11 golfer. In her victory, Papp bested five of the nation's top-10 golfers, according to the latest Golfweek Women's Collegiate Individual Rankings. It marks the third top-10 finish of her young career.

"Kaitlyn had just a terrific week," Murphy said. "To finish the tournament under par on Palos Verdes Country Club was outstanding golf. It is one of the most difficult courses we will see this year - perhaps the most difficult. Kaitlyn's approach to the game and her work-ethic paid off this week. She works diligently on all aspects of her game and was, quite simply, ready to play this week. I'm extremely proud of Kaitlyn Papp right now."

Sophomore Emilee Hoffman tied for the best round of the day on Tuesday with a three-under-par 68. She finished the event tied for 38th with a 12-over-par 225 (76-81-68). The sub-70 round on Tuesday was her fourth of the season. Freshman Agathe Laisne also tied for 38th overall with a 225 (75-75-75).

Sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker tied for 60th overall with a 17-over-par 230 (78-76-76), while junior Maddie Luitwieler was 84th with a 28-over-par 241 (81-74-86).

Texas returns to action March 5-6 when it travels to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Wildcat Invitational at Sewailo Golf Club.
