No. 7 Women's Golf in sixth following opening day of Silverado Showdown

Sophia Schubert, Greta Isabella Voelker fire opening-round 72s.
NAPA, Calif. - Senior Texas golfer Sophia Schubert carded an even-par 72 on Sunday to lead the seventh-ranked Longhorns, who sit in sixth place following the opening day of the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort and Country Club.
As a team, Texas recorded a seven-over-par 295 and is currently five strokes off the team lead following the opening 18 holes of the event, at which the Longhorns are facing seven other squads which are ranked among the nation's top-20 teams according to Golfweek. Southern California leads the tournament field with a two-over-par 290.
Schubert tallied her 11th round at par or better this season with an even-par 72 on Sunday, which puts her into a tie for seventh-place overall. Sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker, who is competing as an individual, also is tied for seventh place with an even-par 72. The duo was tied for the second-best par-three scoring average on the day with a 2.75 on par-three holes.
Schubert and Voelker are six strokes off the individual lead, held by Southern California's Jennifer Chang at six-under-par 66.
Freshmen Agathe Laisne and Kaitlyn Papp each turned in two-over-par 74s, which ties them for 19th place overall. Sophomore Emilee Hoffman is tied for 32nd with a three-over-par 75, while junior Maddie Luitwieler is tied for 51st place with a five-over-par 77.
Second-round play at the Silverado Showdown will begin with tee times from the 1st and 10th tees at 9:45 a.m. CT. Complete results and a recap from Monday's round will be available at TexasSports.com.
