AUSTIN, Texas – Three Lifetime Longhorns are set to take on the world this week from Birmingham, England, at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
The track & field world turns its attention to the professional ranks this week where the best of the best will face off for world championship medals and Texas Longhorns will be on the brightest stage. Action starts Thursday evening from Birmingham and runs through Sunday.
Olympic Gold Medalist and 2016 Bowerman winner Courtney Okolo will don the red, white and blue for Team USA in the 400 meters and the 4x400m relay. Two years ago, Okolo helped her country win gold at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon in the 4x400. This will be her first world indoor meet in an individual event where she hopes to keep the Longhorns on the medal stand after Ashley Spencer won silver in 2016.
Aldrich Bailey Jr. makes his Team USA debut after making his first international team at the senior level by taking second at the USATF Indoor Championships to qualify for the team. Bailey ran two new personal best times at the USATF meet and enters the World Championships with some momentum. He also will be a member of the 4x400m relay pool and eligible to carry the baton around the track for Team USA. The U.S. had success two years ago winning gold in the men's 4x400.
Competing in the field events and representing the Longhorns will be Olympian Jamal Wilson. He is set to take on the world in the high jump for his native Bahamas. He finished 11th at the World Indoor Championships two years ago and has a season-high leap of 2.31m (7-7.00) to rank No. 7 in the world this year.
Fans can keep up with the action from the IAAF World Indoor Championships with live results available at iaaf.org. Live television coverage in the United States will be provided by NBC Sports Network and The Olympic Channel, an affiliate of NBC Sports. Check your local listings for availability and times.
NBC Sports Gold, an online subscription-based channel focused on track & field, will also have coverage throughout the IAAF World Indoor Championships.
The U.S. will not have access to the live stream on IAAF's Facebook and YouTube pages, but fans in The Bahamas can watch Wilson jump through those platforms.
