AUSTIN, Texas – As a result of her terrific weekend in the circle during Texas softball's league-opening series sweep of Kansas (March 23-25), junior hurler Brooke Bolinger has been selected as the Big 12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week for March 26.
For the week, the Yucaipa, Calif., native posted a 2-0 record, a spotless 0.00 ERA and struck out 10 while allowing just four combined hits over 9.1 innings of work and limiting opponents to a .138 batting average.
She started her impressive effort off in the series opener against KU, permitting a first-inning double before retiring 12 of the next 13 batters she faced to secure a 10-2 (5 inn.) triumph. On Sunday, with Texas looking for the sweep, Bolinger scattered three hits, walked two and struck out five over five frames in a 3-0 victory.
For the season, Bolinger owns a 6-4 overall record with a 2.62 ERA, four complete games, two solo shutouts and a team-leading 61 strikeouts over 53.1 innings.
The weekly award marks the first of Bolinger's career in the Burnt Orange & White and the first for a Longhorns player in 2018.
Texas (16-13) returns to action on Tuesday night at Red & Charline McCombs Field by hosting Stephen F. Austin (17-13) in a non-conference match-up at 6 p.m. CT. The contest is slated for live broadcast on Longhorn Network and fans can also listen to a free radio broadcast with Andrew Haynes on the call through TexasSports.com or on 105.3 FM in Austin.
