DALLAS - Sophomore Emilee Hoffman shot three-under-par for the day Friday and the five golfers in the Texas lineup collectively finished the final five holes of the second round at two-under-par as the No. 7 Longhorns surged into first place after the opening two rounds of the Big 12 Conference Championship at the Dallas Athletic Club.

The Longhorns turned in an 11-over-par two-round total of 587 (295-292). Baylor is in second place with a 12-over-par 588 (288-300) and No. 17 Oklahoma State is in third with a 13-over-par 589 (292-297). The Bears held a seven-stroke lead over the tournament field following the first 18 holes of the event.

Texas led the field on Friday with three eagles over the first 36 holes and had the best average of all teams on par-three holes (3.20, +8). The Longhorns also totaled 104 pars - second-most of any team - and recorded 27 birdies.

Hoffman was the only golfer in the field to go sub-par in both rounds of the day. She finished with a three-under-par 141 (71-70), which has her in sole possession of first place individually. Hoffman went three-under-par for her final two holes of the day (birdie-eagle), helping Texas move into the team lead. Hoffman had two eagles on Friday - one in each round - and tied for the best averages among the field on par-three (3.00, E) and par-four (3.95, -1) holes. Hoffman, who placed second individually at last season's Big 12 Championship, holds a three-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes.

Senior Sophia Schubert finished her final nine holes of the day at two-under-par and currently stands in a tie for third place with a one-over-par 145 (75-70). Her second-round 70 tied Hoffman for the best score among the tournament field on the second 18. It went down as her 12th round at par or better this season. Schubert had 23 pars on the day - second-most among the tournament field - and also totaled seven birdies.

Freshman Kaitlyn Papp shot a four-over-par 148 (74-74) and is in a tie for ninth-place overall. She tallied 20 birdies and seven pars.

Sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker is tied for 28th with a 10-over-par 154 (76-78) and freshman Agathe Laisne is tied for 33rd with a 12-over-par 156 (75-81). Voelker recorded an eagle on the 13th hole in the first round on Friday.

The final 18 holes of the 2018 Big 12 Championship will take place on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT at the Dallas Athletic Club. There will be no competition on Saturday due to predicted inclement weather. The Longhorns, who won the 2017 Big 12 Championship, are looking to become the first Big 12 team to win back-to-back conference titles since Oklahoma State in 2008 and 2009.
