DALLAS - The No. 7 University of Texas women's golf team is in Dallas, Texas, this weekend to compete for the Big 12 Conference Championship at the Dallas Athletic Club. The Longhorns are seeking their fifth all-time Big 12 Championship and second consecutive after claiming the 2017 event.
The 54-hole stroke-play event on the par-72, 6,264-yard course will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT Friday with a shotgun start. The teams will play 36 holes on Friday. The final 18 holes will take place on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT from the No. 1 tee. An awards ceremony will follow the final round on Sunday. The nine-team Big 12 Conference field features three ranked teams, including No. 7 Texas, No. 17 Oklahoma State and No. 18 Oklahoma.
The Longhorns have a record of 112-33-1 against their opponents this season, including a 31-12-1 tally against teams ranked in the Golfweek Top-25 at the time of competition. Texas has seven top-five team finishes in 10 tournaments this season, including a pair of team victories.
The Texas lineup consists of senior Sophia Schubert, freshman Kaitlyn Papp, sophomore Emilee Hoffman, sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker and freshman Agathe Laisne.
Texas features the golfers with the top-two stroke averages in the Big 12 Conference in Schubert (71.20) and Papp (71.61). They are two of only three Big 12 golfers (Oklahoma's Julienne Soo at 71.92 is the other) who have stroke averages better than 72. Schubert (No. 6) and Papp (No. 15) both rank among the nation's top-15 individually.
Schubert has five top-10 finishes in five collegiate events this season, including four top-five finishes. She claimed individual medalist honors at the 2017 Betsy Rawls Invitational, becoming the eighth all-time Longhorn and first since 2011 to win the event. Schubert set the Texas school single-season stroke average record last season at 72.49. In 2017-18, she boasts a squad-best stroke average of 71.20.
Papp has recorded seven top-10 individual finishes this season, including top-10s in all five tournaments this spring. She has two individual victories this year - the Northrop Grumman Intercollegiate and the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. Papp has recorded a team-leading 16 rounds at par or better. Each of her 28 rounds this season have counted towards the team score. She enters the Big 12 Championship with a bogey-free streak of 40 consecutive holes and has turned in five bogey-free rounds on the season.
Texas head coach Ryan Murphy is in his fourth season at the helm of the Texas women's golf program. Under the direction of Murphy, Texas golfers have recorded seven of the best nine 18-hole scores in program history, and 10 of the top-12 54-hole totals in school annals. Eleven of the top-13 18-hole team scores in school history have come during Murphy's tenure. Additionally, each of the top-seven 54-hole team scores in program history have been charted by Murphy's teams.
Complete results and a recap of each day of competition at the Big 12 Championship will be available at TexasSports.com.
