Texas Track & Field enters the meet ranked in the Top 15 for both the men and women. The women's team brings 11 entries to the meet while the men have nine entries set to compete. The 11 entries for the women rank as the fifth most in the meet. The men have a balance of entries but are among the national leaders with three distance runners competing. Events to Watch
• Women's 100m Hurdles: Texas is 1 of only 2 teams to have multiple women in this event and both of them rank in the top 4 in the nation heading into the meet. Sophomore Rushelle Burton has clocked 12.64 seconds this year to rank No. 2 in the field and senior Pedrya Seymour ranks 4th at 12.72. Burton finished 3rd at this meet last year when she became the fastest freshman in NCAA history at 12.65. Seymour has a personal best of 12.62.
• Men's Shot Put: Freshman Tripp Piperi became the top freshman in Texas history winning the NCAA West Prelims with a toss of 20.41m (66-11.50). That mark moves him to No. 4 in the NCAA this season heading into the NCAA Championships. He looks to become the first freshman to win an NCAA outdoor title in the shot put since 1999.
• Men's 1500m: Freshman Sam Worley and junior Alex Rogers give Texas a pair of threats to advance to the final and score points. The last time Texas had a Top 8 finish was 2008 when 2 Longhorns finished on the podium. These former high school teammates hope to repeat that feat and give Texas some valuable points. That tandem in 2008 was Leo Manzano and Darren Brown.
• Javelin: Texas is the only school with an athlete ranked in the Top 8 in both the men's and women's javelin heading into the meet. Seniors Fabian Dohmann and Haley Crouser both look to close their careers strong for the Longhorns. Dohmann makes his 2nd appearance at the meet, his first since his freshman year in 2014, and Crouser returns after finishing 8th last year.
• Men's 3000m Steeplechase: Redshirt sophomore John Rice won his heat at NCAA West Prelims with a personal best 8:43.35 to move into the Top 10 in the NCAA this season. Texas has not had a runner make the podium in this event since 2009.
• Multi-Events: Texas is 1 of 6 schools with a male and female representative in the multi-events. Steele Wasik makes his 3rd appearance at the NCAAs and his 2nd as a Longhorn. Ashtin Zamzow returns for her 2nd time after missing last season due to injury. Texas has been a power on the men's side with multiple decathlon titles and regular Top 8 fiinshes. Zamzow looks to become the first All-American in school history for the women in the heptathlon.

• Crouser qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing 7th at the NCAA West Prelims.
Piperi Becomes Top Texas Freshman

• The Longhorns qualified their women's 4x100m relay automatically by taking 3rd in their heat at the NCAA West Prelims. The group of Burton, Daniels, Seymour and Golden clocked 43.69.
