AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Volleyball has added Katarina Luketić (LUKE-eh-teech) to join the 2018 freshman class, Head Coach Jerritt Elliott announced on Sunday.
Luketić joins the Longhorns from Zagreb, Croatia, where she competed with the Croatian National Team since 2016. She will be eligible to play immediately.
"We are extremely excited to add Katarina to our program," Elliott said. "She has played at a very high level internationally, representing her country. She is an elite blocker for her position and very fluid from the right side."
With the Croatian National Team, Luketić played in the 2018 Croatian Cup and Croatian Championship. She started for the Senior National Team in 2017, competing in the World Grand Prix and the European Championship.
Luketić has earned numerous Most Valuable Player honors, most recently at the 2017 First Junior National Championship with Mladost Zagreb. She was named MVP in 2015 at the Championship of Croatia, named MVP after leading Selection of Zagreb to the Trophy of Belgrade, and earned Best Spiker honors after claiming the Trophy of Zagreb.
"Katarina is a player that has the experience to contribute immediately and really adds to the dynamics of this team," Elliott said. "She is very driven as a young woman, wants to be great, and we are extremely excited to have her personality and her confidence to mesh with the team right away."
