- Thursday marks the first-ever meeting between Texas and Long Beach State on the soccer pitch.
- Texas freshman midfielder Julia Grosso received a call-up to the Canadian Senior Women's National Team for a Sept. 2 friendly against Brazil in Ottawa, Ontario, and will not be available for the Longhorns against either Long Beach State or Sunday against Stephen F. Austin.
- Texas enters Thursday's match against the 49ers with a 14-9-1 all-time mark in home openers and a 3-2-1 record in such contests under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Angela Kelly.
- The Longhorns are 8-0-1 over their last nine August matches with their last loss during the month coming back on Aug. 19, 2016, against Seattle (1-0).
- Texas has won its last 10 non-conference home matches, dating back to a 1-0 defeat against No. 19 California on Sept. 4, 2016, and 10 of its last 12 home contests overall (10-1-1).
- Texas has made a habit recently of heading to overtime to settle its contests. In all, 12 of UT's last 18 matches (dating back to Sept. 10, 2017, versus Northeastern) have required some amount of extra time. Over that stretch, the Longhorns are a remarkable 6-2-4 while players have had the chance to log an extra 136:58 on the pitch. That's enough minutes to represent more than one-a-and-half additional matches!
- After scoring all three Texas goals during a 1-0-1 trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. against No. 4 North Carolina and No. 23 UCF, junior forward Cyera Hintzen added more national honors to her resume on Aug. 28. The Garland, Texas native was chosen as the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week and an honorable mention choice to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week.
- A pair of Longhorns were honored by the Big 12 for their efforts last week in Chapel Hill, N.C. Junior forward Cyera Hintzen was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in her career, while junior goalkeeper Nicole Curry picked up her second career nod as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. Curry made seven vital saves, over the two matches against No. 4 North Carolina and No. 23 UCF, including a penalty kick stop during the first half against UNC.
- Junior goalkeeper Nicole Curry's career goals-against-average of 0.71 is currently the lowest mark in school history, 0.13 ahead of standout UT net minder Abby Smith's career GAA of 0.84 (2012-15).
- With her 93rd-minute "golden goal" vs. No. 23 UCF (Aug. 24), junior forward Cyera Hintzen registered her eighth career match-winning score. The Garland, Texas, native now owns eight match-winners over her 16 career goals, meaning that 50% of the time she's scored, it has been to win a contest.
- Junior forward Cyera Hintzen has now scored in all three Texas matches this year, currently leads the Big 12 with four goals in 2018, has equaled the school career record for "golden goals" with three and owns five career goals in the 82nd minute or later in a match (all five have been match-winners!).
- The Longhorns are bringing back some impressive production for 2018 as UT returns 97% of the goals (28-of-29), 90% of the assists (27-of-30), 94% of the total points (83-of-88) and all 11 shutouts between the pipes for the upcoming campaign.
- Texas' defense is particularly stingy, having allowed more than two goals in a single match ONLY THREE TIMES OVER THE LONGHORNS' LAST 111 MATCHES (occurrences were at TCU on Oct. 17, 2014 & Oct. 28, 2016 and at Duke in NCAA Sweet 16 action on Nov. 19, 2017) and only twice over the last 66 matches. In fact, an opponent has scored more than two goals in a contest only six times since head coach Angela Kelly took over the program (three times during her first season on the Forty Acres in 2012).
- Texas started the new season at No. 17 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll released on Aug. 7. The preseason ranking marked the first for the Burnt Orange & White since beginning the 2009 campaign at No. 15. UT is now sitting at No. 16 in the Top Drawer Soccer, No. 17 in Soccer America and No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches polls.
