NEW ORLEANS, La. - Former Texas Track and Field assistant coach Dan Pfaff will be inducted into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Coaches Hall of Fame in December, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Pfaff coached at Texas from 1995-2003, joining the staff in the middle of the Longhorns' dominate run from 1992-97 where they won every outdoor conference title. He also helped them win the 1999 indoor and outdoor conference titles, as well as the 2003 outdoor title.
Pfaff coached nine NCAA champions and two Olympians during his tenure in Austin. He helped Brian Hunter to the 2002 NCAA Outdoor title in the pole vault, capturing the national title with an 18-8.25 effort. In 2000, Mark Boswell claimed both the indoor and outdoor titles in the high jump. Boswell finished his career with four straight national titles.
Pfaff helped the Longhorns capture four NCAA individual field event titles in 1999, as both Boswell and pole vaulter Jacob Davis swept the indoor and outdoor titles. Boswell went on to earn gold medal at the 19999 Pan American Games and a silver medial at the 1999 IAAF World Championships. In his first year at Texas in 1996, Pfaff coached an individual national outdoor champion and Olympic athlete in Richard Duncan in the long jump.
