Women's Golf's Papp named to ANNIKA Award Watch List
09.14.2018 | Women's Golf
Papp was the 2018 Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Year.
Sophomore Texas golfer Kaitlyn Papp is one of 20 NCAA Division I women's golfers who have been named to the first Watch List for the prestigious ANNIKA Award, it was announced Friday morning.
The ANNIKA Award recognizes the most outstanding female Division I collegiate golfer as voted on by her fellow golfers, coaches, golf sports information directors and the golf media. The award, beginning its sixth year, is named for Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam.
Papp in 2018 was named a Second-Team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association and a Third-Team All-American by Golfweek. She won two tournaments as a freshman in 2017-18 and finished the year with a team-leading 20 rounds at par or better. Papp, from Austin's Lake Travis High School, in 2017-18 became the first person in program history to be named both Big 12 Player of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year in the same season. She was a First-Team All-Big 12 Conference selection and was a member of the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. Her stroke average of 72.05 in her rookie season goes down as the second-best single-season stroke average in program history. Papp had eight top-10 finishes in 13 events last season.
This summer, Papp helped the United States win the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup and she tied for eighth at the 105th Canadian Women's Amateur Championship.
Additional fall watch lists for the ANNIKA Award will be announced on Oct. 12 and Nov. 9.
