The Longhorns completed their second-straight unbeaten non-conference regular-season schedule
AUSTIN, Texas – Five total points (two goals and an assist) from junior forward Cyera Hintzen and a goal from senior forward Alexa Adams powered No. 14 Texas soccer (8-0-1) past Northern Colorado (4-5-0) on Sunday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium, 3-0.
With the victory, the Longhorns completed a second consecutive unbeaten non-conference regular-season schedule and improved their non-conference home winning streak to 16 straight matches.
Hintzen managed her second brace (two goals) of the season and added an assist to record the first five-point performance for any Texas player since Olivia Brook put up six points at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi back on Sept. 5, 2014. The Garland, Texas, native now owns a Big 12 Conference-leading eight goals this season and nine career match-winning scores following her winning tally just 6:58 into tonight's victory over UNCO.
Adams picked up her third goal of the campaign during the 34th minute and has now registered points in five straight contests. Sophomore midfielder/forward Haley Berg has posted two points in three consecutive matches after dishing her first two assists of 2018, while redshirt sophomore forward Cydney Billups was credited with her initial assist of the campaign.
The Burnt Orange & White out-shot the visiting Bears by a 14-11 total, held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal and led 4-1 in corner kicks.
Off a third-minute cross, it was Northern Colorado that actually managed the first shot of the match as midfielder Taylor Bray got a slight headed touch on a shot that traveled well wide right of net.
With Texas dominating possession early on, Hintzen forced UNCO keeper Taylor Washington into her first action on a 19-yard shot from the left side at 5:47.
It took just 6:58 of match time for the Longhorns to jump in front on the scoreboard. Berg started off the goal-scoring play with a perfect through ball up the middle into the 18-yard box. Hintzen ran on to the pass, made a slight touch to the right and finished into an empty net from six yards out to make it 1-0.
Northern Colorado settled more into the match over the next 10-15 minutes. Kenzie Bray fired wide right from 25 yards out at 10:36, Kalen Niedling forced a Nicole Curry save on a bounce at 24:49, Mariel Gutierrez drove a blast high over the cross bar at 25:18 and Bray forced Curry into routine action again at 27:48.
Despite better Bear possession, it was Texas that eventually doubled its advantage at 33:06. A ball played up field was headed forward by Hintzen right into the path of Adams. The UT speedster took a lengthy dribble ahead and broke into space up the right wing before finishing to the left of a diving Washington from seven yards out to make it 2-0.
Out of the halftime break, it took just 1:42 for the Longhorns to boost their lead to 3-0. Out on the right wing, Berg passed back to Billups, and the Greenwood Village, Colo., native took one dribble forward towards the end line. She crossed a ball inside the 18 to Hintzen, who settled the ball and turned a complete 180 before blasting home from eight yards out.
Northern Colorado only managed four shots over the final 45 minutes against UT's defense and just one of those, from Gutierrez at the 80:01 mark, forced a Curry catch.
UT substituted liberally throughout the final half with 21 players earning match time while helping the Longhorns run out the clock on their eighth victory of 2018.
