MANHATTAN, Kansas — The University of Texas (4-1, 2-0) defeated Kansas State (2-3, 0-2) 19-14 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Longhorns jumped out to a 19-0 lead at halftime and held on for the victory, their first in Manhattan since 2002. It was Texas' fourth straight win, marking the first time since 2013 that the Longhorns have won at least four straight. Sam Ehlinger passed for 207 yards and a touchdown, Charles Omenihu had two sacks (with one forcing a safety) and freshman return man D'Shawn Jamison scored his first career TD on a punt return to lead the Horns to the win.
KEY STATISTICS
- The two teams traded punts on their first two drives, but freshman return man D'Shawn Jamison returned the K-State punt 90 yards for a touchdown to get the Longhorns on the board. It was the 31st punt return for a touchdown in school history.
- After another K-State punt, the Longhorns went 89 yards in 11 plays for a TD, as Sam Ehlinger connected with Collin Johnson.
- On the next K-State drive, Charles Omenihu got the quarterback for two sacks, including the final one which was in the end zone for a safety.
- A Cameron Dicker field goal gave UT a 19-0 lead at halftime, as the defense got a stop of fourth-and-goal as time expired on the first half.
- K-State began the second half with a 10-play touchdown drive to cut the lead to 19-7.
- After a K-State punt and a Longhorn missed field goal, K-State converted two fourth down attempts to cut the Longhorn lead to 19-14.
- The Longhorns were forced to punt on their next drive, but the defense forced a KSU three-and-out, aided by Breckyn Hager knocking down a pass at the line of scrimmage on third down.
- Following the punt, the Longhorns ran out the final 6:20 of clock, lining up in victory formation to kneel for a win on the road in Manhattan for the first time since 2002.
