The Longhorns defeated No. 7/5 Oklahoma for their first 5-1 start since 2009.

DALLAS, Texas — The University of Texas (5-1, 3-0) defeated the University of Oklahoma (5-1, 2-1) 48-45 on Saturday in the AT&T Red River Showdown. With 9 seconds left, true freshman kicker Cameron Dicker nailed a 40-yard field goal to break the tie and give the Longhorns the victory over the rival Sooners. Sam Ehlinger passed for 314 yards and totaled five touchdowns to lead the Longhorns to victory.
KEY STATISTICS
- Both teams started fast on offense, with the Longhorns scoring on all four first-half drives.
- OU started the game with a six-play touchdown drive to take the lead, but the Longhorns quickly responded with a five-play TD drive of their own, capped off with a Lil'Jordan Humphrey pass to Collin Johnson for the score.
- After a stop, Cameron Dicker and OU's Austin Seibert traded field goals to take the score to 10-10.
- The Longhorns would score on each of their next two drives to take a 24-10 lead. First, Ehlinger found Tre Watson on a wheel-route for a 28-yard TD pass before Ehlinger kept it for nine yards to get into the end zone.
- Oklahoma scored a late touchdown in the first half to make the halftime score 24-17 in favor of the Longhorns.
- The Longhorns began the second half with an 11 play, 75 yard touchdown drive, capped off by Ehlinger's five-yard rush, his second rushing TD of the day.
- Oklahoma quickly struck back on its next drive with a 77-yard touchdown pass to make it 31-24, Texas, midway through the third quarter.
- The Longhorns punted for the first time on their next drive, but quickly recovered a fumble deep in Sooner territory.
- Sam Ehlinger found the end zone on the ground for the third time in the game after the fumble to put the Horns up 38-24.
- After forcing an Oklahoma punt, the Longhorns went 82 yards and capped it off with a touchdown pass from Ehlinger to Lil'Jordan Humphrey to make it 45-24 Longhorns.
- With 8:28 left in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma found the end zone to make it 45-31.
- Oklahoma would total four plays for 124 yards and two touchdowns on their next two drives to tie the game 45-45 with 2:38 to play.
- The Longhorns would drive down the field before true freshman kicker Cameron Dicker nailed a game-winning 40-yard field goal with nine seconds to play for the win.
