AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas defeated Tulsa 28-21 on Saturday at Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium. Longhorn interceptions by true freshmen Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster galvanized the Texas offense, as the Longhorns jumped out to a 21-0 lead by halftime. Tulsa clawed back in the second half, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to seven points, but was unable to stop Texas from running out the clock to ice the win.

KEY STATISTICS

A Caden Sterns interception on Tulsa's opening drive gave Texas favorable field position, setting up a one-yard Sam Ehlinger rushing touchdown.
The Longhorns extended their first quarter lead after a Keaontay Ingram 29-yard touchdown run gave Texas a 14-0 advantage.
Tulsa looked to gain momentum after blocking a Texas punt, however Nate Walker could not connect on a 29-yard field goal attempt. This was Walker's second missed field goal of the game.
On the following Texas drive, Ehlinger connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey to give the Longhorns a 21-0 lead.
After capitalizing on Tulsa's turnovers and missed field goals, Texas led at the half, 21-0.
Just before the end of the third quarter Tulsa cashed in on a short Texas punt that set up a Shamari Brooks 4-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Golden Hurricane their first score of the game, 21-7.
Another Brooks touchdown early in the fourth quarter cut the Texas lead to seven, 21-14.
Tre Watson reeled in an 11-yard pass from Ehlinger to increase Texas' margin back to 14, 28-14. However, on the ensuing possession, Tulsa responded with another score, making it 28-21, with 4:53 left in the game.
Texas ran down the remainder of the clock en route to the team's first victory of the season.

Texas will remain at Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium for their matchup next Saturday when they'll host USC. The game between the Longhorns and the Trojans will kickoff at 7 p.m. and be televised on FOX.
