The Longhorns scored the final 34 points to win their 900th game in program history.

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas (2-1) defeated the No. 22/21 USC Trojans (1-2) 37-14 on Saturday at Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium. It was UT's 900 th victory in program history, and it happened in front of a record, sellout crowd of 103, 507. USC started off hot, quickly jumping out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter. After the first quarter Texas put on a defensive clinic, holding USC scoreless for the rest of the game. Once again, true freshman safety Caden Sterns ignited the defense, blocking a USC field goal that resulted in a scoop-and-score for teammate Anthony Wheeler. Excellent performances from the offense, defense and special teams unit all contributed to Texas' well-rounded victory.
KEY STATISTICS
- USC stormed the ball up the field on the opening possession of the game and Stephen Carr shed multiple Texas defenders before rumbling off a 23-yard touchdown run to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead.
- On the ensuing drive, Texas marched the ball into the red zone but the Trojan defense held the Longhorns to a 20-yard Cameron Dicker field goal.
- JT Daniels and Velus Jones Jr. connected on a 40-yard reception to set up the 3-yard touchdown scamper by Vavae Malepeai to extend USC's lead, 14-3, just before the end of the first quarter.
- The Longhorns started off the second quarter with a bang, as Sam Ehlinger found Lil'Jordan Humphrey deep for a 47-yard touchdown strike to cut the lead to four, 14-10.
- A Kris Boyd interception on the following USC drive set Texas up for another Dicker field goal, this time a 46-yarder, to make it 14-13.
- A shanked 13-yard USC punt gave Texas excellent field possession, setting up Dicker for another 46-yard field goal to give the Longhorns their first lead of the night, 16-14.
- Texas held USC scoreless during the entire second quarter, as the Longhorns entered the halftime break with a two-point lead, 16-14.
- The Longhorns struck first to start the second half as Ehlinger and Joshua Moore linked up for a 27-yard touchdown, giving UT a 23-14 lead. It was Moore's first career TD catch.
- USC looked to flip momentum after recovering a Daniel Young fumble in the red zone, but Caden Sterns had other plans as he blocked a USC field goal attempt, setting up a scoop-and-score for Anthony Wheeler to extend the lead to 30-14.
- The stout Texas defense held USC scoreless for three quarters en route to a decisive 37-14 victory.

Texas will remain at Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium for their matchup next Saturday where they'll host TCU. The game between the Longhorns and the Horned Frogs will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. CT and be televised on FOX.
