Track & Field posts six wins at Ted Nelson Invitational

RESULTS | MEET NOTES
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Texas Track & Field program competed on Saturday at the Ted Nelson Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M inside Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. Six Longhorns posted individual wins while twenty-one personal bests were recorded. UT registered 18 top-3 finishes throughout the afternoon.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Elena Bruckner was the lone two-event winner on Saturday for the Horns. She won the weight throw with the No. 2 mark in school history (18.68m/61-3.50) and also won the shot put (15.33m/50-3.50).
• Tripp Piperi became the third Longhorn in school history to break 20m in the shot put, winning the event with a new personal best of 20.10m/65-11.50.
• The Longhorns swept the 200m. Micaiah Harris (21.04) won on the men's side with the 18th-best time in school history, while freshman Kynnedy Flannel won on the women's side with a 23.46.
• Another freshman won in their first meet, with Jonathan Jones winning the 400m in 46.68. That mark makes Jones the No. 8 performer in school history, while his time in the 23rd-fastest in program history. Entering today, that mark would be the fastest in the country this season.
• Shay Petty set a new personal best in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.29m/14-0.75. That improves upon her career mark as the No. 3 performer in school history and is the 14th-best mark in program history.
• Medric Roberson II ran personal bests in both 60m hurdles heats today. In his preliminary heat, Roberson ran a career best 8.03 to win his heat, while he ran 8.00 in the finals to finish second.
• In the men's long jump, O'Brien Wasome finished second (7.65m/25-1.25) while Ika Morton finished third (7.28m/23-10.75).
• Georgia Wahl took second in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.90m/19-4.25.
• Three Longhorns ran personal bests in the 200m. In addition to Flannel's win, Serenity Douglas (23.89) and Kennedy Simon (24.08) set career bests. Teahna Daniels finished fourth in the event with a time of 23.72.
• Mariam Abdul-Rashid won her heat of the 60m hurdles to advance, finishing second with a time of 8.46 in the finals.
• Gabby Crank finished third in the mile with a personal best of 4:56.31. Claudine Blancaflor and Beth Ramos also ran personal bests in the event.
• Anne Sofie Kirkegaard finished third in the 400m while Megan Rourke ran a PR in the event.
• In the 3000m, Madeline Vondra finished second with a personal best of 9:55.04.
• Ashtin Zamzow, school-record holder in both the women's pentathlon and heptathlon, opened her season with a third-place finish in the high jump (1.69m/5-6.50). Marleen Guerrero set a PR at 1.64m/5-4.50 in the competition.
• In addition to Petty's strong performance in the pole vault, freshman Olivia Buntin finished fourth, clearing a height of 3.74m/12-3.25.
UP NEXT
The Longhorns are back in action next weekend at the Clemson Invitational. The meet begins on Friday, January 18 and concludes the next day.
