MEET NOTES
The Matchup – The Horns have taken the last five from Auburn, including a 175-117 win last year that's part of a 17-dual meet win streak dating back to the 2016-17 season for UT. Texas will also face a Georgia squad for the first time since 2016-17, in which the Longhorns secured a 171-124 win in Athens. All three programs took top-20 finishes at the 2018 NCAA Championships with Texas finishing in sixth, Georgia in 11th and Auburn coming in at No. 16.
A Look at the Longhorns – Both the Longhorn swimmers and divers are coming off impressive performances in their latest outings at the 2018 Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational and USA Diving Winter Trials. The UT diving contingent won the team title at the USA Diving Winter Trials from Dec. 16 – 21. Murphy Bromberg highlighted the Longhorn effort in Atlanta, taking home two gold medals in the platform synchro and 3m synchro events. The UT swimmers also had a strong performance at the Hall of Fame Invite, winning nine events throughout the week with the second-place teams taking only four events. UT set a new program and Texas Swimming Center record in the 400 free relay (3:09.56) and a new pool record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.84) at the Invite.
Top Times in the NCAA this season by Longhorns
- Joanna Evans – 500 freestyle (4:35.78)
A Look at the Tigers – Auburn is coming off a strong performance against Georgia Tech in their latest dual meet of the season. The Tigers took 10 of 14 events en route to their 165-91 win on Jan. 5. Claire Fisch has the lone time in the top-10 for the NCAA this year with her 22.05 in the 50 freestyle.
A Look at the Bulldogs – The UGA swimmers took second in their latest competition at the 2018 Georgia Fall Invitation from Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 behind No. 2 Michigan. In the only common opponent this year with the Longhorns, Georgia fell to Florida while Texas downed the Gators in a double dual, 220-126.
SEASON NOTES
Texas Divers take Team Title at USA Diving Winter Trials – The Longhorns grabbed five medals throughout the Winter Trials, including three gold medals, to take the team title in Atlanta in mid-December.
Horns on Top in Big 12, again – Murphy Bromberg and Claire Adams were selected as Big 12 Diver and Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 5 after their performances at the 2018 Texas Hall of Fame Diving and Swimming Invitationals. Adams won the 100 free and was a member of the winning relay teams in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay while Bromberg won the platform event at the Diving Invite. It's the third-straight week a Texas swimmer was named Big 12 Swimmer of the Week and second in four weeks that a diver was honored by the conference.
Streak Rolls On – With the win over No. 5 California on Nov. 10, the Horns have won 17-straight dual meets dating back to the 2016-17 season.
Texas Sweeps Big 12 Awards – Texas took home both the Big 12 Swimmer and Diver of the Week on Oct. 31 after their top-20 wins over Indiana and Florida. Remedy Rule was tabbed for Big 12 Swimmer of the Week by the Big 12 Conference after her fly wins, while Alison Gibson was selected after picking up wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. It's the third honor of her career for Gibson and second for Rule.
Horns on Top – The Longhorns were selected as the No. 1 squad in the country in the latest CSCAA rankings on Nov. 14. It's the second-straight week atop the rankings for UT after taking the top spot from two-time defending champion Stanford.
Horns in the Red, White and Blue – Freshman Grace Ariola (50 free) and sophomore Evie Pfeifer (200 & 400 IM) were both selected to the 2018-19 USA Swimming National Team. The pair will be joined by Claire Adams in Naples, Italy on Team USA for the 2019 World University Games.
