Track & Field wraps up day one at Charlie Thomas Invitational

RESULTS: PENTATHLON | 5000m
The University of Track & Field program began the Charlie Thomas Invitational with four competitors on Friday in College Station at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. Virginia Preiss competed in her first pentathlon of the season, finishing fifth with 3,589 points. Three women's distance runners competed in the 5000m, with Madeline Vondra setting a personal best by nearly a minute to finish fourth.
Vondra finished fourth in the 5k with a time of 16:58.69. She was joined by two other Longhorns in the top 10 in Marissa Flournoy (7th, 17:39.52) and Olivia Thompson (9th, 17:53.52). Preiss finished fifth in the pentathlon with 3,589 points - the No. 16 mark in school history. She began with a personal best in the 60m hurdles at 8.85 to finish third in the event. She then high jumped 1.60m to finish fourth, shot put 9.66m to finish eighth, long jumped 5.23m to finish seventh and finished strong with a 2:23.10 in the 800m to finish second and move back up to fifth.
The Longhorns will continue action in College Station on Saturday to wrap up the Charlie Thomas Invitational. The sprinters, hurdlers, horizontal jumpers and throwers will all be in action.
