COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Texas wrapped up the indoor regular season on Saturday evening at the Aggie Twilight inside the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. Several athletes were in action looking to improve their marks before next weekend's Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships.
One Longhorn picked up a win during the meet while 11 Longhorns posted personal bests. Jake Johnson was the victorious Longhorn, winning the mile with a PR time of 4:14.21.
In addition to Johnson's win and PR, 10 other Longhorns posted career bests. In the pole vault, Martha Hughes hit a PR. In the high jump, Jared Dupree and Marleen Guerrero both recorded new bests.
The women's distance group stole the show the rest of the night. One day after members of the distance group set the school record in the DMR, seven women's distance runners PR'd on Saturday night. Claudine Blancaflor (mile) and Marissa Flournoy (3000m) both had new career bests, while all five runners in the 800m for the Horns - Mackenzie Jensen, Samantha Shulhan, Valery Tobias, Jaylene Vu and Jordan Welborn - all hit new bests.
Several other Longhorns had strong placements at the meet. Both Barrett Poth and Shay Petty finished second in the pole vault, while Tamea McKelvy advanced to the finals in the 60m.
