AUSTIN, Texas - Forty-two Longhorns were named to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming and Diving Team, the Big 12 Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. Twenty-three student-athletes from the women's team were selected while 19 from the men's side were honored by the Conference.
The Texas men and women both led the way with the most first team selections of any program on each side. R-Senior Murphy Bromberg highlighted the Longhorn effort in the classroom after being nominated with a 4.00 GPA.
Overall, the Big 12 Conference named 129 total honorees to the team with 43 on the men's team and 86 on the women's side. To qualify, student-athletes must compete in over 20 percent of scheduled contests and hold a GPA of 3.00 or better. Seniors that have participated in at least two seasons also qualify even if they miss the necessary participation level.
Both Longhorn squads were previously named as CSCAA Scholar All-American teams in January for their efforts over the fall semester. Texas returns to action for the 2019 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships next week with finals action kicking off on Wednesday night at 4:00 p.m. CT.
