03.13.2019 | Women's Golf
The Longhorns have three regular-season victories for the first time since 1992-93.
KAILUA, Hawaii – For the first time since the 1992-93 season, the Texas women's golf team has won three regular-season tournaments in the same year. The top-ranked Longhorns earned their third team victory of the season on Wednesday, claiming the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational for the second consecutive year at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Club.
Texas and SMU tied for first at this week's Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, each recording 23-over-par three-round totals of 887. Texas A&M was third with a 32-over-par 896.
The victory is Texas' second in a row after winning the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship Feb. 17-19, marking the first time the Longhorns have won back-to-back tournaments also since 1992-93. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Longhorns have won six tournaments and have posted 16 top-five finishes in 19 events during that span.
As a team, Texas led the field with 175 total pars and was second with 29 birdies. The Longhorns recorded the best scoring average of all teams on par-four [4.19, +28] and par-five [4.92, -5] holes.
Each of the four Texas golfers contributing to the team score finished within the top-15 individually, led by freshman Hailee Cooper's third career top-10 finish.

HEAD COACH RYAN MURPHY
"It was nice to get out of here with a tie for first. We had a sluggish start and a sluggish finish but hung on just enough. It's always nice to win, but we'll need to clean up certain areas if we want to play to our potential. Also, the coolest thing about our third win this season is that we've done it with three different lineups. It's nice to be in that position."
UP NEXT
Texas returns to action March 23-25, when it travels to Auburn, Ala., to participate in the Evans Derby Experience.
