Kouskova, No. 2 Women's Golf lead Big 12 Championship after opening day

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Freshman Sara Kouskova fired a first-round 67 Sunday and the No. 2 Texas women's golf team holds a five-stroke lead after the opening day of the 2019 Big 12 Conference Championship at the Golf Club of Oklahoma.
The Longhorns carded a one-under-par 287 to lead the tournament field. Baylor is second with a four-over-par 292, while Kansas is third with a nine-over-par 297.
Kousková holds the individual lead by one stroke over Baylor's Gurleen Kaur [68, -4]. All five Texas golfers are among the top-30 individually with three in the top 15.
As a team, Texas had the most birdies of any team with 17. The Longhorns also recorded 53 total pars and also had the best scoring average [4.14, +7] of any team on par-four holes.
A LOOK AT THE LINEUP
- Kouskova's impressive round of 67 was bogey-free and featured five birdies. It marked the second-best round of her collegiate career and her third round in the 60s. She currently leads the field by one stroke over Baylor's Gurleen Kaur. Kouskova had the best scoring average [3.80, -2] of all golfers on par-four holes and was tied for the best average [2.50, -2] on par three-holes.
- Sophomore Agathe Laisne is in third with a three-under-par 69. It marked her team-leading sixth round in the 60s this season. Laisne finished with a team-leading six birdies on the day, including four birdies on her last six holes. Her six birdies were the second-most of any golfer in the field and she tied for the best scoring average [2.50, -2] on par-three holes.
- Junior Emilee Hoffman is tied for 14th with a three-over-par 75.
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Papp currently is tied for 23rd with a four-over-par 76.
- Freshman Hailee Cooper is tied for 30th with a six-over-par 78.
