Sophomore guard Jase Febres paced the Longhorns with a career-high 26 points while converting a career-best 8-of-10 from three-point range.
AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore guard Jase Febres set a career high with 26 points to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (16-13, 8-8 Big 12) to an 86-69 win against Iowa State (20-9, 9-7 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center. Febres converted 9-of-11 from the floor, including a career-best 8-of-10 from three-point range, and added 4 rebounds in 35 minutes.
Freshman guard Courtney Ramey tallied 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while senior forward Dylan Osetkowski and junior guard Elijah Mitrou-Long each contributed 13 points. Sophomore guard Matt Coleman III recorded a season-high 10 assists with just one turnover in 25 minutes.
A 6-0 spurt by the Cyclones capped by a George Conditt IV three-point play gave Iowa State a 16-7 lead at the 12:26 mark. Febres knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, as Texas grabbed a two-point advantage (22-20) at the 5:57 mark. UT outscored Iowa State 15-3 over the last 4:31 of the first half, and the Longhorns built a 38-26 lead at the break.
An 8-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half increased Texas' lead to 19 (49-30) at the 17:36 mark. Iowa State trimmed the margin to 15 (66-51) after a Marial Shayok three-pointer with 8:32 left, but that was as close as the Cyclones would get for the remainder of the afternoon. The Longhorns led by as many as 21 (76-55) after Osetkowski knocked down a pair of free throws at the 5:35 mark.
