BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The No. 2 Texas women's golf team claimed the biggest victory in Big 12 Conference Championship history and the Longhorns set the Big 12 record for most golfers in the individual top-five on Tuesday to conclude an impressive week at the Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow, Okla.
The Longhorns won the Big 12 Conference Championship for the third consecutive year and the sixth time in program history. Texas totaled a 13-over-par three-round total of 877 [287-297-293]. The Longhorns won the Big 12 Championship by 37 strokes, shattering the previous largest margin of victory by 10 strokes [27 by Oklahoma State in 2008]. Baylor placed second with a 50-over-par 914 [292-314-308], while No. 18 Oklahoma was third with a 52-over-par 916 [301-314-301].
Texas became the first team in Big 12 Conference Championship history to finish with the top-four golfers in the individual standings and just the third all-time to place four golfers in the top-10 individually.
Sophomore Agathe Laisne captured the individual title with a two-over-par 218 [69-74-75]. She is the third Big 12 individual champion in program history, joining Heather Bowie [1997] and Madison Pressel [2011]. It marked Laisne's first collegiate career win. Her 12 birdies on the week were the most of any golfer in the field and she had the best scoring average on par-four holes [4.00, E].
Sophomore Kaitlyn Papp [76-74-71] and freshman Sara Kouskova [67-80-74] tied for second with five-over-par 221s. Junior Emilee Hoffman placed fourth with a seven-over-par 223 [75-75-73]. Hoffman's 36 pars tied for the most of any golfer in the field. Laisne, Papp, Kouskova and Hoffman each earned spots on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team.
Freshman Hailee Cooper tied for 16th with a 14-over-par 230 [78-74-78].
As a team, the Longhorns had the most birdies [39] and pars [165] of any team in the field. Texas also recorded the best scoring average of all teams on par-three [3.18, +11], par-four [4.17, +26] and par-five [4.93, -4] holes.
The victory was the fourth of the season for Texas, which marks the most victories in a single season since the 1992-93 campaign. It continues a remarkable run for the Longhorns over the past two seasons, which includes seven wins and 18 top-five finishes in 23 events during that span.
Texas became just the second team in Big 12 Conference history to win three consecutive league titles. Oklahoma State accomplished the feat with three in a row from 2001-03. The Longhorns have now captured six all-time Big 12 Conference Championships, also winning in 1997, 2004, 2011, 2017 and 2018. Texas has won 16 conference titles all-time, which include 10 Southwest Conference Championships.
This is UT's seventh Big 12 Conference championship to this point in the 2018-19 academic year (Volleyball, Women's Indoor Track & Field, Women's Swim/Dive, Men's Swim/Dive, Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis and Women's Golf).
HEAD COACH RYAN MURPHY
"It was a fantastic week. I am thrilled for Agathe to win this golf tournament – her first collegiate win. To finish 1-2-3-4 in the individual rankings was pretty sweet. We obviously have a good team and these tough conditions suited us this week. When the wind came, we handled it really well. That's really what separated us."
SOPHOMORE AGATHE LAISNE – 2019 BIG 12 INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION
"This means a lot. I didn't play good my freshman year. It was kind of a struggle to come from Paris, France, and have to adapt to the United States. I saw my teammates were really good and they were winning tournaments. I tried to relax more and tried to enjoy it more. We get along really good as a team and we are working well together. We are working hard and it's paying off."
