The senior became the first Longhorn to win the heptathlon at the Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas – On the heels of shattering Texas' school record in the heptathlon at last week's 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Ashtin Zamzow has been named Big 12 Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week. The Longhorn senior turned in personal-best performances in six of the seven events and broke her own school record by more than 300 points with 6,148 points over the two-day event. She also became the first-ever Longhorn to win the Texas Relays heptathlon title. Zamzow's point total was the fourth-highest in meet history as well as the seventh-best score ever by a U.S. collegian, 12th-best in NCAA history and No. 25 on the United States all-time list. That mark ranks No. 2 in the world this year, trailing only Cuba's Adriana Rodriguez (6,293 points). The Goliad, Texas native is the first Longhorn to earn Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors this season.
A USTFCCCA Second-Team All-American in the heptathlon in 2018, Zamzow set a UT record with 4,294 points in finishing third in the pentathlon at this year's NCAA Indoor Championship. She is a two-time Big 12 indoor pentathlon champion and has posted the top five outdoor heptathlon scores and top three indoor pentathlon point totals in UT history.
