Divers add three to Sunday finals at USA Diving Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three University of Texas moved on to Sunday finals inside of the IU Natatorium at the 2019 USA Diving Nationals. Alison Gibson and Meghan O'Brien were two of 18 divers to advance out of the prelim session on the 3m springboard before eventually taking top-11 finishes for a spot in the finals. Jacob Cornish joined the pair to compete on Sunday on the 10-meter platform.
After placing 11th in the prelims, Gibson finished the semifinals in seventh with 295.65 points. Gibson threw the best dive (5152B - 63.00 points) of the opening round and followed that up with the second-best score in the next round, a 107B worth 65.10 points. O'Brien joined her Texas teammates with an 11th-place finish in the semifinals and registering 268.50 points. The senior recorded her best dive of the semifinals in the fourth round, throwing a back 2.5 somersault pike for a score of 58.50 points. On platform, Jake Cornish took the number five spot in the qualifying session, locking down a spot in the finals with 387.55 points. Cornish finished strong in the session, having the fourth-ranked round total on the final dive. His back 1.5 somersault 3.5 twist free was awarded 77.55 points.
The trio joined Grayson Campbell (3m), Jordan Windle (3m) and Murphy Bromberg (platform) who all qualified yesterday for the finals in their respective events.
