Teahna Daniels joins heptathlete Ashtin Zamzow on the 10-women watch list for collegiate track & field’s highest honor.
AUSTIN, Texas — Fresh off setting a Texas school-record in the 200m (22.51) and becoming the third-fastest 100m performer (10.99) in Longhorn history at the NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento two weeks ago, senior sprinter Teahna Daniels is now a member of The Bowerman Pre-NCAA Outdoor Championships Watch List.
The only new member on the 10-women Watch List for the nation's top collegiate track & field award, Daniels joins a group that includes teammate Ashtin Zamzow. Zamzow has been on each of this spring's previously released Bowerman Watch Lists. Texas is the only school in the country with two women on the prestigious awards watch list.
The 2019 Big 12 100m and 200m champion, Daniels tied for No. 1 at either prelim in the 100m and ranked third in the 200m. She was the 2019 Big 12 Championships high point scorer with 22.5 points as she also helped lead UT to a victory in the 4x100m relay as well as the conference women's team title. Daniels is a three-time Big 12 100m Champion, won the NCAA Indoor Championship 60m as a freshman in 2016 and finished second in that event at nationals this year.
Zamzow enters the NCAA Championship ranked No. 1 in the nation in the heptathlon with a school-record score of 6,148 points in the seven-event competition. That point total was the seventh best score ever by a U.S. collegian. Her 6,148-point effort was achieved in becoming Texas' first-ever Texas Relays heptathlon champion earlier this year, where she posted personal-best performances in six of the seven events. Zamzow now holds the top six heptathlon scores in school history.
The Big 12 heptathlon champion and first Longhorn to ever win the event, Zamzow also earned a victory in the javelin at that meet, becoming the first athlete in league history to sweep the heptathlon and javelin at the conference meet. Her 20 points helped Texas claim the Big 12 women's team championship in what was a tight race with Kansas State. Zamzow, also qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in both the javelin and 110m hurdles but did not advance to the NCAA Championships in those events.
Winner of the past two Big 12 Indoor Championship pentathlon titles, Zamzow posted a UT record 4,294 points in finishing third in that event at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championship in that event. She registered indoor personal bests in all but one pentathlon event on her way to the third-place finish at the NCAA indoor meet. She has the top three indoor pentathlon scores in UT history.
Daniels will run the 100 and 200-meter dashes as well as a leg on the Longhorns 4x100m relay, while Zamzow will compete in the heptathlon as Texas hosts the NCAA Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium (June 5-8) this week. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to TexasSports.com
