No. 7 Women’s Tennis sweeps Iowa, 4-0

The Longhorns win their season opener and will host LSU on Saturday (2 p.m. CT).
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 7 University of Texas women's tennis team swept Iowa 4-0 in the opening match of the ITA KickOff Weekend on Friday at the Texas Tennis Center. With the victory, the Longhorns (1-0) advance to face LSU on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
Iowa (1-2) will play Texas Tech (0-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT in the consolation match. LSU (3-0) earned a 4-1 win against Texas Tech on Friday afternoon.
Texas took a 1-0 lead over the Hawkeyes by quickly claiming the doubles point. UT's freshman pair of Adri Nagy and Lexi Ryngler posted a 6-1 win against Samantha Mannix and Danielle Burich on court 3. Junior Fernanda Labraña and sophomore Marta Perez Mur clinched the point with a 6-2 victory over Ashleigh Jacobs and Danielle Bauers on court 2.
Sophomore Tijana Spasojevic earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against Burich to extend UT's advantage to 2-0. No. 4-ranked senior Anna Turati gave the Longhorns a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mannix at No. 2 singles. No. 98 Labraña then clinched the dual-match victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Bauers at No. 5 singles.
Texas is one of 15 programs to serve as a host site for the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend. The annual ITA Kickoff Weekend features 15 "regionals," with four teams competing in each regional. The winners of the single-elimination event advance to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 7-10 in Chicago.
