AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 7 University of Texas women's tennis team swept LSU, 4-0, in the championship match of the ITA KickOff Weekend on Saturday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. With the victory, the Longhorns (2-0) advance to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 7-10 in Chicago.
Texas grabbed an early 1-0 advantage after earning the doubles point against the Tigers (3-1). Junior Fernanda Labraña and sophomore Marta Perez Mur posted a 6-4 win against Safiya Carrington and Paris Corley on court 2. The match remained on serve until the final game, when Labraña and Marta Perez Mur broke the LSU tandem to claim the victory. Senior twin sisters Anna Turati and Bianca Turati clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Eden Richardson and Nina Geissler on court 1.
Freshman Lexi Ryngler got off the court first at No. 3 singles, recording a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Richardson to give the Longhorns a 2-0 cushion.
