Cross Country sweeps Arturo Barrios Invitational

The Longhorns swept both team titles in their first race of the 2020 season.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Cross Country programs opened their 2020 season with victories in the Men's 8K and Women's 6K at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday. It marked UT's first competition Track and Field/Cross Country competition since Feb. 29, a span of 231 days, and first Cross Country race since last fall's NCAA Championships – 329 days ago.
In the Men's 8K, sophomore Haftu Knight earned his second-career win, completing the course in 23:52.1. The Longhorns had five of the top-six finishers, and 10 of the top-14, to pick up the team victory with an 18-point team effort. Eight of UT's 12 entries on Saturday were freshmen, three were sophomores and only one junior.
On the women's side, junior Beth Ramos completed the 6K course in 20:11.2 to pick up her first-career win. She led the Longhorns to a 23-point team effort (1-2-5-6-9) and a team victory. UT had six of the top-11 finishers overall and seven of the top-20.
Texas will conclude its fall Cross Country season on Oct. 30 at the Big 12 Championships in Lawrence, Kansas. Last season, the UT women took second place and the men finished third at the conference meet.
