The Texas women took second while the men placed third in their final race of the fall slate.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 24/29 Texas men's and women's cross country teams wrapped their fall seasons on Friday at the Big 12 Championships, placing third and second, respectively, at the conference meet. It marked the sixth-straight year that the UT men recorded a top-three finish in the Big 12 and the second-straight year that the women placed second.
Beth Ramos paced the Longhorns with a sixth-place finish, completing the 6K course in 21:11.5. It marked the second-straight year that Ramos earned All-Big 12, and she was one of four Longhorns to achieve the feat on Friday. Behind her, Ava Peeples placed 12th (21:28.0), Claudine Blancaflor took 13th (21:28.5) and Gracie Morris finished 15th (21:35.4). Madeline Vondra was UT's fifth-scorer, finishing just a hair behind Morris in 16th place (21:35.4), one spot outside the All-Big 12 pool.
"I was very proud of this team today," Texas women's distance coach PattiSue Plumer said. "It was a rough course and they gave it their all and then some. I'm also proud of how much they sacrificed to get here; doing all the things necessary to stay safe and protect their teammates. A special shoutout to Beth Ramos, who had a fantastic race, but our entire team was Texas tough today."
On the men's side, Haftu Knight earned his second All-Big 12 honor in as many years after clocking a 23:27.0 to finish fourth on the 8K track. Behind him, Graydon Morris took 17th (24:06.8), Crayton Carrozza finished 18th (24:09.2), Brendan Hebert placed 22nd (24:17.8) and Cruz Gomez crossed 23rd (24:19.0).
"Haftu Knight was very good today – that was a big run for him against some of the very best guys in the country," Texas men's distance coach Pete Watson said. "We ended up third with a very young team. Their lack of experience really showed when the race really got going after 4,000 meters. This experience was an eye-opener for the guys and they will be ready as we move forward into our Indoor season."
