HISTORY MAKERS
As part of Texas Athletics celebration of Black History Month, student-athletes will wear commemorative Nike warmup shirts at select events in February. Designed to honor Texas' first Black student-athletes, the shirts feature a special "History Makers" mark. Retha Swindell, the first African-American women's basketball player and the first All-American women's basketball player at Texas, and Rodney Page, the first women's basketball head coach at Texas and the first African-American head coach in any sport at Texas, will be recognized. The first 250 fans will receive a History Makers t-shirt and poster.
NOTES
- The Texas women's basketball team looks to sweep the season series with Iowa State on Wednesday when it plays host to the Cyclones. Tip-off at the Frank Erwin Center is slated for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be nationally televised by Longhorn Network.
- The Series: Texas and Iowa State meet for the 40th time in the history of the two programs with the Cyclones leading the all-time series 20-19. The Longhorns have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the two teams and are looking to sweep the season series for the first time since 2018. Iowa State has won two of its last three trips to Austin. Texas holds a 10-6 advantage all-time when the game is played in Austin.
- On The Boards: Success on the boards has been a staple of Texas teams for many years. In fact the Longhorns have tied or won the rebounding battle in 133 of their last 161 games overall, including 15 of 22 games this season. The Longhorns hold a +8.7 rebounding margin, which ranks 17th nationally. Texas has reached 50 or more rebounds in six games this year.
- Sophomore Success: Sophomore center Charli Collier is one of six players in the Big 12 Conference to average a double-double [Iowa State's Ashley Joens is one of the others] with 13.1 points per game and a squad-best 10.4 rebounds per game. She has 11 double-doubles and ranks 20th nationally in rebounds per game. Collier, her team's starting center, leads the Longhorns in minutes played at 30.1 per game.
- Taylor-Made: Freshman guard Celeste Taylor is a two-time Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week selection and has made a big impact on her team this season. Taylor leads the team in three-pointers made [22] and is second in steals [32]. She averages 9.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. Taylor has scored in double figures in 11 games this season.
- Next Up: Texas returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Lawrence, Kan., to take on Kansas. Tip-off at Allen Fieldhouse is slated for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast by Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
