No. 7 Women’s Tennis sweeps Air Force, 7-0

The Longhorns improve to 7-1 in dual-match play this spring.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — The No. 7 University of Texas women's tennis team claimed a 7-0 win against Air Force (4-3) on Thursday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns, who had played their previous five matches on the road or at neutral sites, improved to 7-1 on the year.
Texas grabbed a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. Junior Fernanda Labraña and freshman Adri Nagy, playing together for the first time this spring, jumped out to a 5-0 lead and cruised to a 6-1 victory on court 2 against Meredith Jones and Kristin Kerrigan. Air Force's duo of Alex Kuo and Courtney Swift answered with a 6-2 win on court 3 over sophomore Marta Perez Mur and freshman Gabby Cusano.
Senior twin sisters Anna Turati and Bianca Turati appeared to be in control on court 1, running out to a 5-0 lead against the No. 50-ranked pair of TJ Fumagalli and Nadeen Lieberman. Air Force's duo held serve on a deuce point and followed by winning each of the next two games on deuce points to pull within 5-3. Fumagalli and Lieberman then broke the Turati twins to make it 5-4 and held a 40-15 advantage in the following game. The twins rallied to win three-straight points, breaking the Air Force duo on a deuce point to close out the match 6-4 and clinch the doubles point for the Longhorns.
Texas won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the sweep. No. 125 Labraña earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court 4 against Kerrigan to improve to 6-1 in dual-match singles this spring. Nagy followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court 3 over Lieberman to increase UT's lead to 3-0.
No. 42 Bianca Turati clinched the dual-match victory for the Longhorns with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court 1 against Fumagalli. Turati improved to 6-0 this spring in dual-match singles competition. Playing all six singles matches to completion, sophomore Tijana Spasojevic added a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court 5 over Sydney Fitch to give Texas a 5-0 advantage.
No. 2 Anna Turati improved to 7-0 in dual-match singles play this spring with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court 2 against Jones. Turati rallied from down 2-4 in her opening set and won 10 of the next 11 games to finish out her match. Perez Mur completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court 6 over Swift.
UT returns to action when it hosts Brown on Sunday, Feb. 16. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Central at the Texas Tennis Center, and the match will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
