The Longhorns posted three more NCAA top-16 marks on Saturday in Clemson.
CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 3/5 Texas Track and Field program closed out a busy weekend of competition on Saturday, posting a trio of top-16 NCAA marks at the Tiger Paw Invitational (Clemson, S.C.) and the Husky Classic (Seattle, Wa.).
Sophomore Kynnedy Flannel opened her season with an impressive 22.93 in her signature event – the women's 200-meter dash – which was good for a third-place finish and the No. 4 spot on the NCAA list this season. Her fellow sophomore, Julien Alfred, came in fourth after clocking a personal-best 22.99 in the event's opening heat. Alfred's performance improved her standing as the seventh-best 200-meter performer in school history, and was the No. 6 time in the nation this year.
In the men's triple jump, senior O'Brien Wasome improved his season-best mark, clearing 16.56m/54-4 on his third attempt. Wasome, the 2018 NCAA Indoor triple jump champion, now sits at No. 3 on the NCAA list this season.
Including the three NCAA top-16 marks posted on Friday, the Longhorns produced six total marks over two days of competition this weekend. Tripp Piperi (No. 1 – Men's Shot Put), Jonathan Jones (No. 2 – Men's 400m) and John Burt (No. 6 – 60m Hurdles) produced the first trio on Friday, with Alfred, Flannel and Wasome adding to the tally Saturday.
The Longhorns will now turn their attention toward the 2020 Big 12 Indoor Championships, which will be held in Ames, Iowa, on Feb. 28-29. UT won the women's title last year during Edrick Floréal's first season as head coach and will look to win their first men's conference title since 2017 in two weeks.
