No. 7 Women’s Tennis defeats Illinois, 4-1

Longhorns will conclude play in consolation bracket at ITA Indoor Championship against No. 12 Ohio State on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
CHICAGO, Ill. — The No. 7 University of Texas women's tennis team registered a 4-1 victory against Illinois in the consolation bracket of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday night at XS Tennis Village. The Longhorns improved to 5-1 on the season and will conclude play at the tourney against No. 12 Ohio State (4-1) on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The Longhorns grabbed an early 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point. Senior twin sisters Anna Turati and Bianca Turati posted a 6-2 victory against Emilee Duong and Josie Frazier on court 1. Moments later, junior Fernanda Labraña and sophomore Marta Perez Mur clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Sasha Belaya and Mia Rabinowitz on court 2.
No. 2 Anna Turati got off the court quickly at second singles, earning a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win against Rabinowitz to increase UT's cushion to 2-0. Illinois (3-3) trimmed the margin to 2-1 after Duong claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Perez Mur at sixth singles. No. 42 Bianca Turati gave the Longhorns a 3-1 advantage, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Asuka Kawai at first singles.
No. 125 Labraña clinched the dual-match win with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Ashley Yeah at fourth singles. Trailing 5-2 in the second set, Labraña rattled off three consecutive games to even the set at 5-5. In the second-set tiebreaker, Yeah took an early 2-1 lead but Labraña won four straight points to move ahead 5-2. After Yeah pulled to within 5-4, Labraña won back-to-back points to close out the victory.
Freshman Adri Nagy at third singles and sophomore Tijana Spasojevic at fifth singles were both in third-set battles when Labraña's win clinched the dual-match victory.
