AUSTIN, Texas – The timeline for the 2021 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays has been moved up a week, as The University of Texas' premier Track and Field meet will now be held March 24-27, 2021, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. The meet was originally scheduled for March 31-April 3.
Every year, the Texas Relays brings in some of the nation's top talent in the high school, collegiate and professional ranks. With 2021 being an Olympic year, it is anticipated that the level of competition will be as strong as ever in Austin. Accepted entries and a full meet schedule will be announced closer to the competition.
The Texas Relays offers elite athletes across the country an opportunity to burnish their credentials prior to the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England, former Longhorns Sanya Richards-Ross (2003-04) and Trey Hardee (2004-07) competed in the Texas Relays. Richards-Ross won a pair of gold medals (400m, 4x400m) and Hardee a silver (decathlon) that summer.
The trend continued in 2016, as Morolake Akinosun (2013-16), Chrisann Gordon (2015-17), Courtney Okolo (2012-16) and Ashley Spencer (2013-15) all competed at the Texas Relays prior to medaling at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that summer. Akinosun (4x100m) and Okolo (4x400m) both won gold, while Gordon (4x400m) and Spencer (400mH) brought home a silver and bronze medal, respectively.
The reigning 2016 Olympic shot put gold medalists, Ryan Crouser and Michelle Carter, are both also Longhorn Legends that have honed their craft at the Texas Relays over the years before they reached the summit of the sport.
