Men’s Tennis sweeps doubles, splits singles at Bama Spring Shootout

The Longhorns won all 10 doubles matches and five of 10 singles contests against members of the Crimson Tide.
Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Texas Men's Tennis team swept all 10 doubles matches and split 10 singles matches against members of the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Bama Spring Shootout on Saturday.
The day's action featured two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Like the previous day, the one constant pairing in both doubles rounds was the combination of sophomores Eliot Spizzirri and Siem Woldeab, who took 6-3 and 7-6 (2) wins in the respective rounds. Sophomore Cleeve Harper paired with junior Chih Chi Huang for a 6-3 win in the first round, and then partnered with freshman Micah Braswell for a 6-2 win the the second. Huang then paired with senior Payton Holden in the second round for a 6-1 win, after Holden and Braswell were together for a 6-3 win in the first.
Sophomores Jacob Bullard and Evin McDonald partnered for a 6-0 sweep in the first round, while in the second, Bullard and sophomore Eshan Talluri captured a 6-2 win, and McDonald and junior Nevin Arimilli took a 6-3 victory. Talluri and freshman Leighton Allen rounded out the first round with a 6-3 win.
In singles, there were once again two waves with the first using all six courts. Texas picked up wins from Woldeab over Zhe Zhou (6-2, 1-6, 6-2), Braswell over Riccardo Roberto (6-3, 6-1) and Allen over Avi Shugar (6-2, 6-4), while in the second wave, Spizzirri topped Patrick Kaukovalta (6-4, 6-4) and Harper wrapped up the day with a win over Edson Ortiz (6-4, 6-3).
The Longhorns will play one round of singles tomorrow at 10 a.m. to conclude the Bama Spring Shootout before returning home to Austin to prepare for their first dual match of the season against Louisiana on Jan. 15 at the Texas Tennis Center.
