UT has earned seven total selections as part of the 2021 Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week
AUSTIN, Texas – Another unbeaten week has led to more individual accolades for Texas soccer as freshman forward Trinity Byars was named to the full Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, while freshman midfielder Lexi Missimo earned a Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week – Honorable Mention nod.
Texas has now had four players combine for seven total inclusions as part of Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week this season. Previous nods were earned by Missimo (Sept. 15), Byars (Sept. 21 & 28), senior midfielder Julia Grosso (Oct. 5) and fifth-year senior goalkeeper Savannah Madden (Oct. 19).
The Byars/Missimo duo combined to score five of Texas' seven goals and dish four assists this past week during victories on the road over Kansas (2-0) and in the Big 12 quarterfinals against Oklahoma (5-2).
Byars registered the match-winning goals during both wins over the Jayhawks and Sooners. The Richardson, Texas, native also added her first career hat trick, over a stretch of just 15:35 of the second half, while helping power the Longhorns past the rival Sooners in the Big 12 Championship. In the process, Byars joined Missimo as UT players to score at least three goals in a single match in 2021, while her hat trick marked the 15th all-time in program history. She now owns 12 scores this season to rank in a tie for sixth all-time in a single season in the Texas record book.
After scoring her ninth goal of the campaign at the 55:02 mark of the 2-0 shutout at Kansas, Missimo served as the team's distributor versus Oklahoma by assisting on each of Texas' first three goals during the 5-2 triumph. The occurrence marked the second time that the Southlake, Texas, native registered at least three helpers in a contest this season after tying a program single-match record with four assists back on Sept. 26 at Oklahoma. Missimo's 13 total assists currently tie her with Texas-Ex Kati McBain (2002 & 2002) for the second most assists in a single campaign in Longhorns history.
Texas returns to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT in the Big 12 Conference semifinals against West Virginia. The contest at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex is slated for live broadcast on ESPN+.
