Freshmen Trinity Byars & Lexi Missimo join new Texas signee Jilly Shimkin as part of the 24-player group
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas freshman forward Trinity Byars, freshman midfielder Lexi Missimo and recent freshman transfer signee Jilly Shimkin have all received call-ups to the 2021 U.S. Soccer Under-20 Women's National Team training camp being held from Dec. 7-14 at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The U-20 USWNT is preparing for next year's CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship which is set for Feb. 25-March 12 in the Dominican Republic. The CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship will qualify three teams to the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica.
For all three Texas inclusions, this certainly isn't their first foray into international action as part of the U.S. Women's National Team program.
Byars has played on numerous U.S. Women's National Teams from the U-14 to U-20 levels. The Richardson, Texas, native was also the youngest player on the roster for the United States at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay.
This marks Missimo's 27th domestic camp or international event call-up as part of the U.S. Women's National Team program since 2016, ranging from U-14 all the way up through U-20. Included during her time wearing the Red, White & Blue were international event trips to 11 different countries, including Sweden and Portugal with the U-17's, and a championship run at the 15th-annual Delle Nazioni Women's U-17 Tournament in Italy.
From an international playing standpoint, Shimkin has also participated as part of U.S. Women's National Team squads from Under-14 all the way up through Under-20. With the USYNT program, she has competed in international events in Germany, China, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal and the Netherlands.
