AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas senior Jordan Windle captured the 1-meter title to highlight Monday's first day of the Big 12 Diving Championship at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Windle posted a six-dive total of 469.85 points, setting a Big 12 Championship meet record.
His total eclipsed the previous mark of 441.50 set by Will Chandler (Texas) in 2015. Windle earned his sixth career Big 12 individual title and first on the 1-meter board, as he previously claimed 3-meter crowns in 2018 and 2020 and platform championships in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Windle led a strong team effort by the Longhorns, as freshman Noah Duperre placed second (438.70) and Andrew Harness took third (363.40). Freshman Brendan McCourt also finished in fifth place with 353.70 points. Duperre, who was the top seed in the finals after posting a 431.30 in the prelims, set a personal best with his performance in the finals.
Windle led from start-to-finish in the finals. He opened with a score of 85.25 on his first dive, an inward 2 ½ somersault tuck (405c) and received a perfect score of 10 from one of the judges. He also earned a score of 81.00 on his fourth dive, a reverse 1 ½ somersault 2 ½ twist free (5335d), and closed out the win with a score of 81.60 on his final dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike (5152b).
The team champions for the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship will not be crowned until the completion of Wednesday's platform diving finals. The Big 12 Diving Championship continues on Tuesday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 3 at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Finals sessions are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT on both days. All finals sessions of diving will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Due to health and safety protocols, the event is closed to the public.
