Pineda places second on Women’s 1-meter on day one of NCAA Zone D Diving Championship

Pineda, O’Neil and Skilken earn NCAA qualifying spots on Women’s 1-meter; Windle, Duperre and Harness claim spots on Men’s 3-meter.
LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Texas senior Jordan Windle captured the 3-meter title to highlight Thursday's first day of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The Longhorns qualified three women on the 1-meter springboard and three men on the 3-meter springboard for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
On the women's side, junior Paola Pineda, freshman Bridget O'Neil and sophomore Jordan Skilken all placed among the top 10 finishers to secure their spots on 1-meter at the NCAA Championships. Pineda registered a second-place finish with a score of 608.00 points, trailing only Sarah Bacon of Minnesota (701.60). O'Neil took fifth (588.60), and Skilken placed ninth (563.40). Sophomore Janie Boyle placed 14th (542.15), while junior Morgan Menninger finished 15th (522.15).
The Texas men grabbed three of the top four spots in the 3-meter springboard competition to easily place among the top nine finishers and claim their spots at the NCAA Championships. In addition to Windle's victory with a total score of 876.15 points, freshman Noah Duperre took third (757.75) and sophomore Andrew Harness finished fourth (752.15). Freshman Brendan McCourt placed 10th (659.70), while junior Andrew Gawin-Parigini finished 16th (622.15).
Windle faced an 18-point deficit to LSU's Juan Hernandez at the end of the six preliminary-round dives. On his third dive of the finals session, a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck (307c), he registered a score of 87.50 to take an eight-point lead in the standings. Windle added separation on each of the final three dives to close out his 876.15-854.55 margin over Hernandez.
The NCAA Zone D Diving Championship continues on Friday, March 12 with the women competing on the three-meter springboard and the men on the platform. Preliminary rounds for both women and men start at 10 a.m. Central. Finals on the men's platform are scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. Central, while the finals on the women's three-meter are set to begin at 12 p.m. Central.
