Pineda places third on Women’s 3-meter on second day of NCAA Zone D Diving Championship

Pineda, O’Neil and Skilken earn NCAA qualifying spots on Women’s 3-meter; Windle, Duperre and Harness claim spots on Men’s platform.
LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Texas senior Jordan Windle won the platform title to highlight Friday's second day of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The Longhorns qualified three women on the 3-meter springboard and three men on the platform for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
On the women's side, junior Paola Pineda, freshman Bridget O'Neil and sophomore Jordan Skilken all placed among the top 13 finishers to secure their spots on 3-meter at the NCAA Championships. Pineda recorded a third-place finish with a score of 688.30 points, finishing behind Sarah Bacon of Minnesota (735.50) and Brooke Schultz of Air Force (700.30). O'Neil placed seventh (642.35), and Skilken took ninth (637.20). Junior Morgan Menninger finished 15th (589.50).
The Texas men again claimed three of the top four spots on the platform to place among the top eight finishers and claim their spots at the NCAA Championships. In addition to Windle's victory with a total score of 870.20 points, freshman Noah Duperre took third (720.45) and sophomore Andrew Harness finished fourth (718.90). Freshman Brendan McCourt placed 12th (591.35).
Windle faced a 52-point deficit to LSU's Juan Hernandez at the end of the six preliminary-round dives. On Windle's first dive of the finals session, an inward 3 ½ somersault tuck (407c), he earned a score of 94.40 and received a perfect score of 10 from four of the seven judges to trim the margin to 26 points.
Windle took the lead after the third of six rounds in the finals, and he sealed the win with a score of 86.40 on his final dive, a back 2 ½ somersault 2 ½ twist pike (5255b). Windle finished with a total score of 870.20 points, well in front of Hernandez' 793.80.
The NCAA Zone D Diving Championship concludes on Saturday, March 13 with the women competing on platform and the men on the 1-meter springboard. Preliminary rounds for both women and men start at 10 a.m. Central. Finals on the women's platform are scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. Central, while the finals on the men's one-meter are set to begin at 12 p.m. Central.
