The Details
It was Texas that managed the first shot of the match as freshman midfielder Lexi Missimo fired high of frame just 4:14 in.
What turned into a Longhorns shooting gallery continued nearly unabated as Missimo and Brooks forced Kyleigh Hall saves at 7:09 and 13:29, respectively.
Between the pipes, Hall continued to keep the Islanders in the contest, registering three stops over a 1:05 span from 19:22 to 20:27, as freshman defender Lauren Lapomarda, Brooks and McFarland all threatened the net.
Brooks was at it again at 21:10 as a one-two between Grosso and Missimo ended up at Brooks' feet. Unfortunately, her eventual shot hit off the side netting.
Texas A&M-CC finally managed a shot at 22:38 as Natalie Gonzalez fired a low effort that was saved by Texas keeper Madden.
Overall, during the first 45 minutes, Texas out-shot Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 15-3, including 8-3 in shots on goal, but couldn't grab a first-half lead.
The second half proved a very different story as the Burnt Orange & White finally got on the board at 57:24.
Freshman midfielder Kelsey Hranicky started the play with a blocked shot. Nobles tracked down the loose ball, and after making a couple of moves, dropped a pass back to Grosso. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native promptly drove a shot into the lower left corner from 15 yards to make it 1-0.
Just 6:50 later, the Longhorns doubled their advantage. Junior defender Emma Regan controlled a loose ball in the back and delivered a beautiful long pass behind the AMCC backline right into the path of an on-the-run Nobles. Unselfishly, the Southlake, Texas, product crossed from the right wing towards the top of the six-yard box. McFarland ran unopposed up the middle and tapped in easily from three yards for a 2-0 advantage.
During the 84th minute, Strouphauer started off UT's final goal by making a move up the right wing around an Islander defender. She delivered a picture-perfect cross towards the left side of the box where Brooks was waiting in space to roof a volley from six yards out and finalize a 3-0 score.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi managed just two shots over the final 45 minutes with Madden making saves at 54:24 on Kayla Gove's effort and on an Abby Deakin attempt at 65:49.
