No. 2 Rowing dominates Longhorn Invite with five wins

Texas collected victories in all five A Final races and a runner-up result in the II Four.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Rowing dominated the Longhorn Invite, collecting five victories and a runner-up result on Saturday on Walter E. Long Lake. Texas advanced six boats out of the morning preliminary session into the championship finals of the second session.

"It was a great day, although the second session provided some challenging conditions. I'm really impressed with the way all of the crews handled the racing, especially the first eight," said Texas head coach Dave O'Neill." We worked on a few things the last couple of days, and they took a big step forward. It was also great to see so many of our boats and team members race very well and come together as a team."

In a field that included ranked squads in No. 10 Alabama and No. 14 SMU, as well as strong teams from Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tulsa and the University of Central Oklahoma, the Texas I Eight, II Eight, III Eight A and I Four came away with impressive victories, each winning by more than 10 seconds in their races, while the II Four A and II Four B dominated their final with a one-two finish.

For the second straight event, the Texas II Eight registered a time that would have placed it second in the I Eight race.

"Hosting an event like this always presents extra work for our staff, and the wind created some additional challenges," O'Neill said. "Everyone stepped up and made it work, and I am grateful for their efforts."

The Longhorns will be back on the water next weekend, when they head to Earlysville, Virginia for a dual meet with No. 3 Virginia on Sunday, May 2.
